Positive Behavior System Philosophy:
Riverside Central has adopted the Positive Behavior System philosophy (PBS). PBS is a broad range of systemic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behavior. The language that all staff use within the common areas are referred to as “the basics – bus, body, and line” and the teaching matrix describes the expectations in each of those common areas around the building. As a site, we have categorized the behaviors into Minors and Majors – see description. The flowchart describes how Riverside staff react to behaviors.Beside the modeling and practicing of expected behaviors, PBS stresses the positive referrals and recognizing students for outstanding work. All staff have access to the Otter Etiquette Award Nomination form and are able to nominate any student at any time. Once a student receives this nomination a copy of the form will be displayed in the lobby area as well as the student will be recognized by one or more of the following: name announced over the morning announcements, phone call home, and/or administration comes to the classroom and recognizes the student within the class. We also have our bus drivers participating in this initiative. This is outlined in the positive referrals on the bus document. If you have any questions regarding our school-wide plan, please contact the school office and an administrator will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
